We're so excited to welcome Aaron James and the Black Water to the Cafe Blackbird stage on August 23rd!
Aaron James and the Black Water is an artist based out of Saigon, Vietnam but can be found traveling all over performing for crowds large and small in dark smokey bars to the most well lit concert halls. Aaron wears his profession like a badge of honor and a stain simultaneously; offering a blend of modern and vintage, Neo-Soul and Alternative-Blues.
Aaron has been writing songs since the tender age of 7 years old. What once was held in secret notebooks kept under the mattress of his childhood bed. Later become what he apprehensively and desperately fumbled through in front of the near strangers he called friends. Later that evolved into the self loathing therapy of a tormented youth battling depression and suicide. Aaron's obsession with it drove him further away from those he knew and spent many years traveling alone (sometimes with a companion or two) in search of those who would listen to his song. One day (not too long ago) it evolved once again into a young man's well crafted blend of all the music he grew up with and held so dearly.
Stevie Wonder, The beatles, The Gypsy Kings, Sublime, James Brown, Jeff Buckley, Prince, Michael Jackson, Nina Simone, Etta James, Tom Waits, Howlin' Wolf, Son House… just to name a few… Are all the melting pot that defines Aaron James sound.
