Varscona Theatre Ensemble presents Plain Jane Theatre Company's smart and hilarious musical comedy Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown based on Pedro Almodovar's beloved film.
«Mayhem and madness have never been so much fun,» says Kate Ryan, Plain Janes Theatre Company Artistic Director and Director for Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. «And yet this musical, written in the 1980s, was ahead of its time and remains astonishingly relevant to the movement and freedom of women today.»
It is 1980s Madrid…a time when the city was pulsing with art, industry, and liberated women. As Pepa's world is unravelling, we join her and her taxi driver for 48 hours of love, confusion, deception, and passion as she searches for her lover while meeting other women in various stages of crisis. Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown features sizzling music by David Yazbek and a laugh-out-loud book by Jeffrey Lane, both of whom wrote The Full Monty and Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, amongst other musicals.
