On Thursday, October 12th we're so excited to welcome Giselle Boehm and Lorna Lampman to our live music stage.
Giselle is an established Edmonton based vocalist and pianist, and is rapidly developing her reputation as an singer/songwriter. Her sound has repeatedly been compared to musicians such as Regina Spektor, Ingrid Michaelson, Feist, and Nora Jones — comparisons that reference her stylistically smooth vocals, thought-provoking lyrics, and her charming indie-pop appeal.
Influences of blues and jazz filter into her writing, however, Giselle's signature sound falls into the category of the uniquely modern, lyrical piano-ballad — a factor that is quickly defining her influence, and contribution, to the contemporary music scene. Lyrically and melodically, her songwriting examines concepts of nostalgia and memory, contemplating ideas relating to perspective and perception biases. Emotional tension, relationships, and their complexities are a never-ending source of inspiration for the content of her writing, causing her work to be strongly relatable, and her performance, calming, intimate, engaging, captivatingly personable, and not soon to be forgotten.
Lorna is a singer/songwriter based out of Edmonton. With smouldering vocals that echo heartbreak and longing, she is a vocalist who, without reservation, wears her heart on her sleeve.
The art of self expression and vulnerability has always been important to Lorna and that transpired in her passion for drawing and singing at a young age. At the age of seven, her family bought a seventy-seven Rhodes electric piano, and that truly sparked Lorna's love for voice and instrument together. With powerful vocals, haunting lyrics and infectious keys, Lorna's songs originate from the themes of love, loss and redemption. Inspired by a wide range of solo artists including but not limited to Kate Bush, Jonatha Brooke and Joni Mitchell, Lorna Lampman puts her own personal stamp on everything she touches.
Showcasing a collection of new originals throughout venues in Alberta, Lorna also plans to embark on an independent recording of her tunes in 2017
